　　(1)1861 年，南北双方爆发内战。

　　(2)林肯(Abraham Lincoln)于 1862 年颁布了《宅地法》，1863 年发表了《解放黑人奴隶宣言》(The Emancipation Proclamation)，为最终废除奴隶制度预先铺了路。

　　(3)1863 年底，林肯发表的《葛底斯堡演说》(Gettysburg Address)成为美国历史上最著名的演说之一，其中广为称颂的语段是 “… and that government of the people, by the people, and for the people shall not perish from the earth”。

　　(4)1865 年南北战争终于以北方的胜利而宣告结束。南北战争废除了黑奴制，为美国资本主义发展扫清了障碍。
